Why do we still use titles such as Ms,Mrs, Mr? Surely they are now redundant.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Miss (unless you are 6) and Mrs should be dumped, but Ms is just an unpleasant noise. We need an alternative really if they are going to be used.
I don't find them offensive, btw, I don't mind what people use for me, I just leave it blank myself on forms, or if people ask, I just say my first and surname, that's enough really.

I agree with maydup, why should i be asked if im married when, for example, ordering something? My husband is not.
There is need for some titles, i think but a general one for ladies like there is for men (Mr / Sir) would suffice.
When i started work in the 80s, we called all managers by Mr, Mrs or Miss X never by their first name.
