Been reading/researching on my lappy while having you tube opened on another window and listening to some 70's & 80's music.
A Gary Glitter playlist came on. While no fan of the man, (for obvious reasons) I DO like his music.
Am I wrong in *not* finding his talent as a musician offensive?
Back in the day he WAS an entertainer. In person, he was reprehensible, but as a pop star he, well, entertained!
I still enjoy the music as much as I deplore the man that created it.
Its a conundrum.

Don't think Glitter had much involvement in writing his songs, but MJ certainly did:

Jno, I think Rolf Harris’s victim was younger than teenage, IIRC. I can’t say I miss his music or tv shows, so I don’t have a difficult choice.

thank you JimF x

Was wondering if those songs would be played now and what the artists think of it all? (rhetorical question)

It's easy to not play or listen to either MJ or GG but I think a bit harder not to do either if the song was written by either of them.
Wasn't Glitter's greatest Hit , ''Do You Want to Be In My Gang ? ''
That might give rise to an alternative meaning now !
I always replace the GL in his name, with SH ! Makes a better discription of the ''man'' !
Wiki says the ages were between 13 and 19. He was convicted of assaulting an eight-year-old but this was overturned on appeal, he was cleared of assaulting a 12-year-old, and allegations of viewing underage children on porn sites were disproved.

If I'm reading this correctly:

I'm still reeling from Andy's response regarding which is worse the rape of a baby or sexual assault of a teenager. It's rare I'm appalled by a comment on here but that really knocked me sideways tbh andy, I have no idea how you could possibly think that.
Don't worry...I'm sure andy will return with 8 or 9 pages of explanation of how his valid argument has been misconstrued
Never liked GG's music, not my type at all and now he's well known as a dirty paedo, he quite literally turns my stomach. Poor Gness, I don't know how you would ever get over something as horrific as that, sad for you x

I merely turned your premise on its head, in order to demonstrate the nonsense of it.

Abuse is a vile crime, I am not someone who thinks that 'this' abuse is not as bad as 'that' abuse - it is all bad - that is the point I am making.

Just the three paragraphs - I can add another eight or nine pages if you need them - just let me know.
You make sure you have a happy life, HereIam.....make sure you don't become bitter and dwell too much on what he did.
There are odd things though.....my abuser looked just like the old chap in Steptoe and Son.....I won't watch that or listen to it.....he also grew prized Gladioli......couldn't have those in my garden and I will stamp on them in other gardens with a few sweary words too......surprises the garden owners.... :-)
As others have said, you have to separate the art from the artist. I will continue to enjoy some of Michael Jackson's music because I like it and it brings back happy memories. That is my choice.
