I 'reset Settings; Omg!

I had a problem with Chrome not opening (see below) and looked on the net for help, Microsoft said resetting settings could solve problems and I followed the links which carried it out.

Now fortunately I still have my files, but I have lost complete programmes - I have lost my main email account, Word, Libre Office and worst of all; Photoshop.

Are these programmes now irretrievable, please?

Have you looked in your list of installed apps and programmes? You may just need to put them back into your task or tool bar after opening.

Resetting Chrome or Windows ? Can't see why resetting a browser should have an effect on anything else.

Have you tried a search in File Explorer ?

If Khandro was in a Microsoft forum it sound like a windows system reset. Big step to take without a big think. I was wondering whether Khandro know how to look for a previous version install. If we knew which Windows system he is using we could better advise.

What exactly did you do?

Press the Windows key on your keyboard and then start typing w-o-r-d (i.e. word). Pretty quickly, your PC should give you Microsoft Word to choose from on the menu if it is still installed.

If Elllipsis's tip yields no results. Again press the windows key, then click on the little gear logo (bottom left in the pop up field), then choose "update and security" from the menu, then choose "recovery" from the menu, then look if there is an option to "Go back to previous version of Windows 10".

Togo; A nightmare! whatever you do, don't ever use windows set reset. I have lost so much stuff, we have been hours trying to put things to rights and will need another session tomorrow. Thanks anyway.

I know Khandro…..that is why I put "Big step to take without a big think." Last resort step I would say. Certainly not a move for a browser issue. It is recoverable but a bleedin pain. I don't know whether the W10 system you have is an upgrade from say 8 or 7 or xp. If so you may have those programmes somewhere on the drive but needing registry level tech to get at them. Do you have an external back up tucked away anywhere? I am assuming that an internal back to previous version is not possible. If your w10 was an upgrade from an older operating system, believe it or not you have IE somewhere in there that may be of some use in looking for them all. Particularly if you have favourites saved in the old IE browser.

We, (or I should say, he) finally got there - almost. I now have Photoshop and emails, word, and several other things, I've lost most of my contacts, which is maddening because it had their postal addresses and phone numbers included and I've lost Publisher and have no means of re-loading it.
I do have a back-up disc but its from about 2 years ago when I was on W7 so we avoided it.
It seems it's not possible to extricate the Publisher programme alone from a disc.
Very expensive lesson!

Backup....backup......backup. When you are as far as can get backup. You could have overwritten that old 7 backup at any time Khandro. As you say lesson learnt.

I'm getting somewhere; we installed 'Libre Office Draw', which looks like it might, for my purposes anyway, substitute for the lost M. Publisher.
I have though, no sound on YouTubes and the screen is too bright.
