learning to drive

i'm going to start learning to drive soon and i was wondering if anyone could recommend a good book to help me? ideally covering both the theory and the practical.

also, as for an instructor - is there any advantage in using someone like BSM or AA or are they all much of a muchness?

I had lessons with a private instructor in Leeds and I found that entirely adequate. Buy a copy of the highway code (�1.49, i assume you can buy it in post offices or something), it's actually quite readable and was the best practical book I had.

i just brought the theory book for my bro in law, i had this book when i had my test it has all the questions in it that you may be asked in your test also the high way code book is included as well, this book will set you back at �9.99

The Highway Code book would be a good start.
Also look at the DVLA Car Driving books in WHSmith.
Some of these books come with an interactive CD-ROM which will give yoy question & answers on the highway code & on how you should drive.
