What size TV?

I need a new TV and want to put it into a cupboard. The dimensions I have are 75 cm wide and 55 cm high (this includes the stand it will be standing on). So what inch screen do I need?

Yes, that's the logical answer but I was wondering if someone could give me an idea so I can do a bit of searching on internet before I buy....

Screen size is usually measured diagonally but then you also have to allow for the screen frame, so as gsr suggests you'd best go and physically measure I think.

You might (just) get a 32" TV in, if the frame around the screen is quite narrow and the stand is reasonably neat.

Next size down is a 28" which will fit easily.

I'll have a look see if any manufacturers quote overall dimensions including stand.

For the height you can use the same converter but the available height for the screen depends on the height of the stand

Have looked at half a dozen 32" sets on amazon - all just too big (around 80cm by 56cm).

But more or less any 28" should fit

Some TVs have narrow speakers each side of the screen.

Personally I would go to Currys/Comet etc etc measure tv's and when I find one I like make a note of the model number then go home and buy it cheaper online!

I bought a 32inch Samsung a couple of weeks ago. It is exactly 78 cm wide and is a tight 55cm high including the stand.

thank you matt and derrynoose. That confirms that 32'' is too big. Not sure how many 28'' screens are available will have a look around.
