Not that I'm radio enough to buy a new car anyway but now there is a positive incentive to not buy one! Speed curtailment regardless of situation is dangerous anyway. Decision probably made by a non motorist.

aog, if you mean a device in the road that forces a car to brake, that would be incredibly dangerous.

I am not suggesting a device that slams on the brakes, but a device that becomes active a certain distance from the speed limit zone, which gently applies the brakes and slows down the accelerator.
there is an easier way of killing off the British car building industry and that is vote for Brexit

but doesnt anyone ( besides MEEEEEE!) remember governors ?

luvly day were - spinning squares dat got squarer when they went faster ( and that cut off the petrol ) and slowed the engine

governors limited speeds to 50 ( mph - old units)
and were abandoned as you couldnt accelerate to get yourself out of trouble
( quick wizzy wozzy swerve all over the road with screaming engine and speech bubble coming out of the driver mouf- "what the f!")

in - in the 50s and out by the 60s
If the device can be turned off then basically what they are fitting is
is a warning device. We already have plenty of those which are frequently ignored so why is this so different?
Not turned off - overridden; there is a subtle difference. If you need extra speed you stand on the accelerator and exceed the limit; if you don't back off after a short while it irritates you in some way until you do.
For those banging on about speed limiters been around for years - have you actuallt read the article because what is being proposed its totally different.

With Governors or limiters (my car has one limits it to 140 or something) you know the limit, it doesnt change therefore if you are doing 5 mph lower than max speed you are careful of a manoeuvre. With these the GPS will transmit the local speed to tell the car to slow down and it appears it will unless the driver presses hard on the accelerator(so there will be a lull). I see they also are saying that it can be turned off but has to be done every journey - a bit like that pesky engine stop you have to press to make the car run normally.
All this is fine, but how long until Big Brother Government decides to monitor you and fine you if you press it or reduce the speed to snails pace and ther eis nothing you can do.

In a way I am all for some sort of speed control, if they really want safety then this is the way. But there are two problems, first being you cannot trust Government, and even less Plod and the civil service and secondly how will Government raise all that revenue currently pulled in through speeding fines?

all this messing about with the accelerator is very dangerous, especially to bikers. Imagine, nothing nothing nothing, wallop, up in the air.
