On my mother's side there is a connection to Maples stores.
I've never traced anything back.

They also had a large chain of furniture shops which was later sold to a company called Beddoes, if anyone in the NW as heard of them. Having made loads of money from the sale of their chain of shops, the family then proceeded to piddle it all against the wall. There goes my inheritance!
