"But ultimately it is the EU which decides whether to grant an extension. European Commission Vice-President Jyrki Katainen said a no-deal Brexit was "highly likely" despite Parliament proceeding with legislation to prevent it." - I will be eternally grateful to the EU if they do not allow further dithering.

//3T - why is he still in post then?!//
//NJ,my reply was tongue in cheek about the civil servant but thanks for explaining the situation ;-)//
If your reply was about a civil servant it reminds me of the UK modern army saying about the first issue SA.80 Assault Rifle.
" What is the similarity between a Civil Servant and a SA.80 Assault Rifle?
Answer: "They don't work and can't be fired"
