By the time that Star Trek set off on its 5 year mission, Earth had moved on from such trifling matters as working for money and had become more interested in accumulating knowledge and wisdom, therefore there were no monetary rewards.
I would not be surprised that out there somewhere some Trekky nerd has drawn up a salary scale for Star Fleet officers.
