Try tip 13 on the link: http://frugalliving.about.com/cs/tips/a/blvinm isc.htm should help with the flies

Otherwise if they are comingthrough open windows / doors, fit a decent screen like those at: http://www.flyscreenqueen.co.uk - found this a while ago - prety good price and should help.
Someone said that they used a 'fly pen' which they would 'draw' along the bottom of the window. I forgot to ask where I could get one of these!
I was in a restaurant in Florida last year and they had tables on the veranda outside, and hanging from the wooden ceiling rafters were little clear plastic bags filled with water, we asked the waitress what they were for, she said it's to keep the flies away - something to do with the flies reflections when they fly near looking like bees, she said it sounds mad but it actually works - we've had no flies anywhere since they were put up!
