Just wondered what you good folks of AB think about this.

We will have to redecorate two bedrooms in our house because of damage by damp. One room is my son’s; he is in his late 20s and has had his own home for six years. He wouldn’t care how I decorated it, but he said his wife ‘wants some input’ in the decisions. I thought ‘Cheeky mare! It’s not her house.’ Or even her room. But I don’t want to fall out with my son.

What do you think? Should I consult her, or do what I damn well like with my own home?

Err no, I agree with Eleena , take a hike pal .
Your house, your choice.
Decide what YOU want and stick to it. Its your house, not hers.
Woodchip paper and Magnolia paint never offends... very cheap too...
Never offends? You should hear what Martin Roberts, Dion Dublin, Phil Spencer and Kirsty Allsopp think of that!
well, they're not going to be in the room, are they, Hopkirk...
Why on earth would she want an imput? She doesn't use it does she?

Presume they have their own house to implement her ideas?
Erm, he doesn’t live with you anymore therefore he doesn’t have a room - it’s now a spare room!
Today is the day you start to call it your spare room.

Decorate it as you wish and ask you son whether, since he's married and we,l and truly settled in his own home, would he mind finding somewhere for his last bits and pieces as you are having a clear out. No need to fall out, and if he doesnt have room you can always box them up for the loft or garage.
...they're not planning on moving back in are they?

How bizarre...just tell her you've already chosen what you'd like for the spare room.
See what her ideas are. You might both agree.

When my son moved back home we got his room plastered, new carpet, new lighting, and decorated...he's barely stayed here since! The only input I had was the choice of carpet.
But Clovers son is not mlving back in!
I wonder if clover has referred to it as their room especially as their son still keeps stuff there giving them perception of ownership of the room
But he’s married!
He's married, you wouldnt expect to be consulted about their house!! Just make a decision about the rooms in YOUR house and tell them how you're looking forward to working on your new plans:-) No need for drama ,you're in charge!
Do what you want. It's your house, not hers. she has a cheek saying that. If it was me she would be in no doubt about that!
Where do people get their sense of entitlement from these days?
perhaps she wants mirrors on the ceiling for when they stay overnight?
tell her to Bog off !!
consult with her, she may actually have some good ideas....however, you don't have to follow her suggestions as its your choice...
