The Diane Abbott Thread.

I'm too late to join the thread below following its closure due to AOG and RR getting into a (pathetic) spat, so I thought I'd add my two penn'orth by opening a new thread.

I cannot stand Abbott with an all encompassing passion that borders on irrationality. I hate the fact she felt her child was too good for the schools that she stated her constituents should support, I can't stand the fact that she is the very definition of tokenism given she's been promoted way beyond her limited abilities and intelligence, and I am scared witless that potentially she could be in charge of the nations security.

I hate this woman.

But....she was having a harmless drink on a train. She wasn't bothering anybody, she wasn't drunk and causing a problem, so I really can't see why there is such a brouhaha (love that word). She should be left alone.

Hopefully this thread will stay open without people spoiling it.

there'd be some very different reactions had it been Farage not from me there wouldn't. Crowds of drunken yobs may be a problem but a politician with a mojito I couldn't care less, whether's it's Abbott or Tommy Robinson.

Sad fuss about a little thing, signifying nothing but absence of forethought.
Drinking alcohol on a train is not forbidden.
I know nothing of the Abbott situation and care less but that’s a fact.
ichkeria- "Since 1 June 2008 it has been illegal to drink alcohol on Transport for London's (TfL) network."
According to the BBC - Under TfL's conditions of carriage "anyone caught consuming alcohol may be prosecuted"

TBF DD, I'm no fan of the Abacus but I take your point it's a bit of a song and dance. So what she has a sherbet on the train.

"Any fool can make a rule. And any fool will mind it". Henry Thoreau.

Some rules are just silly.

I now fully expect somebody to suggest something along the lines of if you believe that then the logical conclusion is that if you feel murder is acceptable you can ignore the law that forbids it. A stupid point of view but I'm sure some people will try to go down that road.
TfL yes but not trains in general. Just being an annoying git I know ;-)
It goes with the territory of being in the public eye. No doubt she broke a rule and should expect the flak, however trivial the matter in some eyes..
Did she buy the drink on the train? If so then the Transport company should be fined for selling alcoholic drinks when they have notices pinned up forbidding alcohol.
First black MP?

I defended her on the other thread but as someone else said, there'd be some very different reactions had it been Farage or similar. (and don't even think about denying it)
I haven't studied all the news but I thought it was can from M&S not the train - which one would assume doesn't sell alcohol if they have that rule.
Prudie. If that's the case then she should have been a bit more observant.
Well that's the whole point - she knew and ignored it and personally I think she got what she deserved (in her position).
never mind how unladylike it is to drink alcohol from a can at lunchtime :-)
M&S mojito? Not very working class is it?
//According to the BBC - Under TfL's conditions of carriage "anyone caught consuming alcohol may be prosecuted" //

per the closed thread. alcohol is proscribed under the conditions of carriage. if caught and refuse to desist, the miscreant can be arrested for a public order offence - rather than the consumption of alcohol itself.
there'd be some very different reactions had it been Farage

not from me there wouldn't. Crowds of drunken yobs may be a problem but a politician with a mojito I couldn't care less, whether's it's Abbott or Tommy Robinson.

/// Just how many people have been prosecuted for drinking on London transport? ///

What you should ask is, how many people now drink alcohol in those areas of transport where it is now forbidden to?
Politicians, not even black female politicians are above the law and just because it was a middle class tipple from M&S and not the white lightning super strength drunken yob level doesn’t mean she should get away with it.

She has been a politician for long enough and gets castigated by the public and press for being an idiot should mean she takes more care.

But apparently not.
