21a Attacker with inside help. Answer must be raider ie aid inside rer but where does the rer come from please?
20a Father is an employer. ?a?s?s. Pauses fits but is part of the clue missing? Surely we need to be asked to find a word that means pauses?

I'm sure RAIDER is right as retrocop had that too but I can't fully explain it- even if the clue said 'helper' it still wouldn't be a great clue. What letter pattern did you have please?

REgarding PAUSES, I should have added that although it's probably right I agree that the clue is missing a definition

Well aid is self evident for helper but my wife and I feel there should be some reference to r er. Something like,'The Queen asked the Regiment to help oust the attacker'

raider is okay but the clue is weak as it doesn't really explain the RER part but I accep RAIDER has the word AID in (but they could just as easily have chosen to put something in for AIDE or ID or IDE)

And PAUSES is not defined in the clue. Cryptics normally include a definition- eg father is an employer who hesitates/is reluctant/waits ...etc
