Victory for the women who race?
I can't see this going away anytime soon so how will this end up, one race for everyone or a separate race for those classed in between?

it will probably bring the performance of each group closer to convergence, but the physiological differences cannot be altered. X-Y people have a heavier bone structure and narrower hips as compared to X-X people. regardless of fiddling with hormones and other "treatments" to modify muscle mass or stamina, but X-Y will always have a performance advantage.
I suspect in the end equality and inclusivity will be the winner, and X-X people will just be told to "man up" (ta-daa!) if they want to win in the brave new gender fluid future.

Can someone establish the essential fact for this (very lazy poster), please? Is this a real woman with an accidentally - maybe freakish - high level of a male hormone, or is it Bruce Jenner deciding to rebrand himself gender-wise in order to get gold in the women's heptathlon?
My own view on this case would be determined by that answer.

I am sorry to have took your thread off track, but I was just bringing another factor into the debate after reading your comment regarding separate races.

Setting aside the related but different issue of athletes who transition, I feel very sorry for this young woman who seems to be caught up in a time when these issues are first coming to light. I suspect that in 20 or even 10 years time, the way she has been treated will be viewed with horror. I suspect that Pixie’s comments are based on the facts as we understand them now which is maybe all that can be done now, but I also think that room should be left in our understanding and judgement (and you do sound a bit judgey, pixie) for the facts that we don’t know or fully understand yet. Do we know if all female athletes are required to prove their natural testosterone levels fall within prescribed limits or was she singled out for some reason?
Cloverjo....quite...but what is her genotype?
If she is a woman then she should have the XX sex chromosome, but if she has XXY all the characteristics of a male, then she is male.
I am not happy with the definition of sexuality by hormone levels.
All athletes should be genotyped and only 2 admitted for athletic competition...XX an XY...if you are neither, then you don't compete at county or international level.

pixie...the "rest" are just that, the "rest" and although it is tough, then life is and they do not compete at county or international level.
I thought that there was a move to keep drugs OUT of athletics, now it seems that that there is a move to introduce them to the "intergroup."
difficult problem, but i stand by my solution.
