A trip to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
If you were to purchase a theatre ticket over the internet from a reputable company like lastminuat.com for instance and the ticket for the performance you purchased was purchased over a month before the performance and then when you made all the necessary arrangements like shipping your mother up from Cornwall to London as this was her Christmas present and then after all that you arrived at the theatre only to find there was no performance that particular evening because they made a mistake they then refunded your money back and offered you 30 quid as compensation what would you do??

Almost all theatres and concert venues have a clause written into their ticket sales that allows them to change or cancel the performance without prior notice, and with no liability attatched to them. You could try writing and outlining the circumstances of your trip, and the expenses and disappointment involved, and the theatre may up the compo, but they are in no way obliged to give you anything at all. Harsh, but it's legal. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Good luck with your letter, and remember, be nice, and hopefully they'll respond in a similar manner.
I would totally agree with you Andy if it wasn't for the way the question was worded.....It sounds to me like there was never actually a performanced scheduled for that night and if that was the case then the company are liable for all you expenses if that was you sole reason for your journey......had they cancelled then it would be tough luck but if someone has erred and booked you for a night with no performance then I would detail your full costs in a letter and ask for it to be repayed....do keep it civil though as you are more likely to get joy with the carrot than the stick.
