Has anyone ever done this? Was it quick to get back? And did you just get someone to take your photo? TIA.

last time I did it, I just sent them a selfie, cropped as per their requirements.
Yes, did it on line. The passport was back in less than a week, but it was a January. Had our pictures taken at a local framing shop, can't remember exactly how much but certainly wasn't expensive.
Yep, easy peasy. I went to Max Spielman for the photo, they’ll check it with the passport agency to make sure it’s Ok. Trying to do the photo myself was ridiculous.

I think the passport came in about 8 days.
Not done an online renewal (they were not available last time I renewed) but will do next time. Do not "get someone to take your photo". The requirements are now very precise. Go to a photographer. They have templates to get your image right. Most do it for five or six pounds. Money well spent.
Yes, it came back at least by when it said it would and I actually used one of those booths for my photo. Less hassle. Didn't bother with post office check and send either.

Really Jno? Against a white background I would guess?
oh yes, all in order, a bit of our outside wall is painted white.

Yes Prudie, the nearest P.O that does your photo for you etc is about 20 mins drive away and then an extortionate car park fee.
I did it in Tesco (the photo)
Our local pharmacy does 6 for £5 just had some done today lol
The rules are no stricter for doing it yourself. In theory it should be cheaper easier and quicker.
Question Author
I can’t think of who could take my photo or where.
I’m not necessarily recommending doing it yourself, but in theory, provided you follow the instructions, it should be possible.
I’m pretty sure I did it for one of us a few years ago.

I’ll have go onto the renewal website and read up properly.
"I’ll have go onto the renewal website and read up properly"

Where do you get these outlandish ideas from?

Lol.
My husband's just renewed his online and we got Jnr's online too. Both their photos were taken by me using his iPhone.
Very easy. Photo from shop, they do all the right things.
Do copy the process number as you go along on the form. You will need it if you have to start again. Also print the final page before you send it so you have a copy. Took 6 working days to arrive in Portugal
I had mine done a few weeks ago....Photo, showing upper body, taken by Mrs Bear with my iPhone, with white background...filled in application online....downloaded photo when asked ( they crop it to suit )....did this Saturday afternoon and forwarded to them....Monday, after work, popped in Post Office to send off old passport, as they ask for it and will not issue a renewal until this is recieved, new passport arrived on Thursday secure delivery, and got old passport back on Friday, and clipped in corner, for me to keep.

6 days from the time I applied, so great service from The Passport Office.

It's so easy to do online, Smow
