I dont know anyone, male or female, who is going to watch it or is remotely interested. Yet the BBC insists on spending a load of licence payers money on covering the whole thing. Are they yet again trying to prove how 'inclusive' and right on they are at our expense? I dont care how much they try to ram it down our throats, I wont be watching it, Im not interested.

And in any case the idea that men can’t compete successfully against women in sport is largely untrue anyway.
It’s true that at the top level and in pure strength sports men come out on top in many but by no means all.
And at lower levels often gender is irrelevant.
Golf is an interesting one: I don’t really ever watch women’s golf because I find it even more boring than men’s golf: but the reason for that is I’ve never heard of the players and the competitions mean less to me. But that’s a question of exposure: nothing to do with thinking that the actual golf is in some way inferior (even if it is). A bloke or a girl swinging a club and hitting the fairway or not seems pretty much the same to me.

And arguably in those sports where you’d probably not dream of having women compete against men there are fewest complaints: women’s boxing, weightlifting, karate etc

Hearing the male imbeciles this morning commenting on a soccer match last night, the BBC would have been well advised to show some of the women's game instead.
It is generally more enjoyable to watch people playing for the love of the game than it is to have your time wasted by overpaid children who can't string a sentence together.
The W Series motor racing features a number of female drivers who had won in other formats against men but still couldn't get sponsorship. There are excellent opportunities for those with vision.

This thread is about football - you cannot seriously be suggesting men and women can compete on an equal footing at lower levels. If you are, you couldn't be more wrong if you tried.
I can't comment on sports which do not require physical strength such as snooker, darts (although I struggle with the concept these are even sports), golf etc..., because I have no interest in them, but if it is the case women can compete on an equal footing against the men, then why aren't they?

I agree DD, that, really other than equestrian, it is rarely appropriate for men and women to compete together.
Saying they aren't as "good", does seem irrelevant, as the point is purely entertainment... a life isn't saved every time someone scores a goal, the only point is enjoyment - and there is nothing to say that only the "best" players are worth watching.

There would be no point on televising any games at all, unless they were between the two best teams in the world every time. But that obviously isn't how it works. Sometimes the best games to watch, are the closest matches, not necessarily the strongest or fastest.
