Do not know if I should ask this or not but here goes. Why is it that when questions are answered with obvious thought and sensible advice and/suggestions there is very often no response from some of the posters. Just an observation and hoping no hard feelings

danny...well clearly i don't agree with all that is said by the Editorial team. I am not sure that one is DEMANDING feedback and/or thanks, but one is expecting it of good manners and i don't need the team to explain that to me.

Sometimes posters post on various sites so might have gotten the answer elsewhere.
tis a lot of emails to delete when q are posed. 42 & rising - phew!
^^posted. thats another em to OP ;)
Explanation for the unobservant amongst us. An earlier respondent wrote “ I did not infer that it wasn't rude,” which I took to be a mis-speak.
It's often more polite to let such slips go by - unlike measuring how many tiles one needs for your bathroom wall it isn't a big deal.
Calmck - you’ve not responded.... : )

Been out all day, nursing reunion in the year we all turn 75. I know an answer is not obligatory but a lot of us on here take the time to look things up, find sites to peruse and offer advice. None of the above have to be followed, used or anything else. A simple “thanks guys for your answers” and maybe a follow up if advice was good or not promotes goodwill
Ah, but I don’t see misuse of words as a’slip’.

Like disinterested and uninterested, (for example), infer and imply are subtle distinctions that all users of English should be aware of.

Had someone asked which was the correct word to use then that's fine, corrections can seem unnecessarily picky outside of the classroom environment BillB.

It's been an interesting thread Calmck, thank you.

Thanx Mamylanne. Thanx to everyone who responded. I enjoyed reading the replies and no going off track “abuse”. Thanx and will now ponder on best answer
I'm glad that I kept my mouth shut. :-)
...so I'm not going to say anything about ending a sentence with a preposition...
irmi.com has a page entitled “"Never End a Sentence in a Preposition" and Six Other Myths about Writing.

Worth a look if you’re interested in good English.
