When I was a young adult I loved his books. I’ve just ordered On the Beach and wonder if I’ll be as spell bound as I was 50 years ago......somehow I doubt it.
Has anybody else done this?
Oh someone else who loved Nevil Shute . My first dip into adult reading aged 15 in 1955. Started me on a lifetime of reading and yes I have read some of his books again .
Well it seems to be the case of ‘once a Nevil Shute fan always a Nevil Shute fan’ and now I’m looking forward to reading all of them again. Roll on Amazon market place.
"On The Beach", a great book, and also, and this doesn't happen very often, it was made into a excellent movie. The many versions of the playing of the song "Waltzing Matilda" was quite memorable and moving.
My first "adult" book was The Diary of Anna Frank. Since then I've visited where she lived in hiding and Bergen Belsen where she died. I found it very emotional.
Just love Nevil Shute books and have the whole collection. Written in a much gentler age. My absolute favourites are A Town Like Alice and In the Wet which I have read many times. Haven't read his autobiography so thanks for the heads up Hoppy.
