It would suffer greatly from stress, isolation (they are pack animals) and boredom. On top of that it would be very hard work looking after one as it would require a great deal of training in order to get it to respond to even simple commands (e.g. toilet training). Dogs and cats are domesticated animals which have been bred for obedience and suitability as pets over thousands of years. Obtaining a monkey as a pet - by fair means or foul - and irrespective of personal circumstances - is cruel and selfish. Saying that you would care for it better then other people do does not make it right.
Why not show you love monkeys by adopting a squirrel monkey at the Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre in Dorset: http://sql.monkeyworld.org.uk/
Monkeys are social creatures that should live in large groups and in particular conditions. It is NOT recommended they be kept as pets!

What are you implying EINSTEIN that I am unintelligble. Not very plesant. You have your views and that is fine but you have no idea what facilities I have on my land for monkeys. I am not so cruel as to just obtain an animal because I like it and it makes me happy, I am not selfish. I realise that the main issue and priorty is that of the animal. I do not need to work and I have abundance of land. I have exactly what monkeys need to be contented and happy. And would, under no circumstances even contemplate on getting an animal unless I could supply this.

I have to agree with Einstein. In one of your earlier postings you say 'people keep dogs, so why can't I have a monkey'. This statement shows such a monumental lack of understanding that if the RSPCA were to see it they might consider you to be unfit to keep a monkey, no matter how much you think you love them. I would dearly love to have a dog, but I don't because I'm at work all day and it would not be fair on the dog. I also love monkeys and all apes, and would love a monkey as a pet but again I wouldn't dream of it because I must sacrifice my wishes to what is best for the animal. Please think again.
