I use my printer rarely, and I'm disgusted that my ink seems to have dried up. It's costly to replace, so I'm wondering if there's a way to get it 'running' again?

There is a chance - but don't hold out too much hope. Remove the cartridge and gently clean/bathe the bottom (where the ink comes out) with isopropol alcohol (as used for cleaning tape heads, floppy drives and other electronics). If it's just the nozzles that are clogged, this may clear it.

If printer is lying idle for long periods, ensure it is turned off when not in use as when it is turned on it gets warm and dries ink out, also it is worth just printing out a test page or a picture to just keep the ink running once week, I know its a waste but so is throwing away a dried up cartridge.
