Bliss

well Bliss for me is - that after 4 months of clanking and clanking between our semi-detached houses has been fixed.

The clanking some days went on for days and days and and of course I had to do a process of elimination - got two plumbers and unfortunately the clanking stopped when they arrived and they done this and that. Alas that clanking came back and one Sunday sister was here - she heard it but had done so many Sundays - she thought it was maybe the neighbour's son playing games.

Last Friday - the clanking started and I run over to my neighbour/builder cos I knew somebody had to hear it - he just put his ear to wall and said "I know what it is".

You have a broken aerial on your roof and right enough when we went outside - there a piece of the aerial had broken off and was banging back on the aerial when it was windy.

He went onto the roof and removed the broken bit and my life has been simply bliss.

you better believe it Anne - it was putting me round the bend since I couldn't fathom what it was. I changed bedrooms but probably on a windy night the clanking had started to reverberate around the house. My sister couldn't believe it.

thanks Sqad - it is nerve deafness I suffer with but people/friends cannot believe I can hear like low sounds yet can't understand them unless I am facing them with the lip reading.

Jenny....I have looked, but cannot find the one to which you are referring.
However....you need more than sound levels to understand what people are saying you need speech appreciation ( speech discrimination).....in simple terms, if you cannot understand what people are saying there is not much point in speech volume.Sound(noise)is mainly appreciated in the low tones, but speech discrimination (understanding) is usually provided by vowels, which are in the high tones.

NOW....many nerve deafness's are in the high tones much more than the lower tones which means that sound is fine, but discrimination (speech) is poor.

Simply put........you can hear them talking, but you cannot understand what they are saying.

very well - thanks Sqad - I mean that's what I mean friends just simply cannot comprehend my deafness. I can't hear people in the car talking and friends are saying "sure I'm talking loud".

Only 2 very old friends understand. I am going to print out your post - thanks again.

Ummm, people that are deaf can also feel vibrations of said noise.
I have a deaf friend, also with nerve deafness and she can hear certain noises but not high pitched one's like whistling.
