It never ceases to amaze me on here how many times advice is asked for and given, some good and some not so good, and there is no follow up,no reply,no thanks, surely common courtesy dictates an answer of sorts, personally I am quilty of not replying to some questions where to answer would get me in trouble, but normally I would answer.

I agree Jordy. There may be a multitude of excuses, but it boils down mainly to ignorance and bad manners. Some posters I see in some sections on AB, I refuse to answer as i know there will be no reply and on rare occasions the reply is venomous and insulting.

And sometime the response given is totally unacceptable,I always remember when I first joined the site replying to an answer in the Crossword section four or five of us gave the right answer virtually at the same time and recieved no answer. On looking back a couple of hours later another right answer had been added and this one had recieved a reply thanking him and ignoring all the other replies.
As I written many times before, the chances of getting an acknowledgement for a post seem to be inversely proportional to the amount of effort which goes into it.
It can often take me less than 30 seconds to google for the information required and to post that information (or a link to it) here on AB. In such cases I quite often get profuse thanks, perhaps with the poster saying "Thanks, I've been googling that for days".
However if I spend hours researching answer (or jump in my car to drive for hours to get the information required), I'll almost certainly get no feedback at all. (I travelled to Paris on one occasion, to help an ABer find his way around. He didn't appear particularly grateful but perhaps that's because he had to endure my company for a day!)

^^^ I agree, Tilly2, but sometimes the information which actually does get provided doesn't help much either!
For example, someone might post a question which basically says little more than 'My email isn't working'. So I'll ask them to let us know the type of device that they're using (PC, iPad, Android phone, etc) and whether they're accessing their mail via their web browser or through a dedicated email app.
On many, many occasions I've had such questions answered with this 'helpful' reply: "I just click on it"
Grrr!!!
