D-Day Commemoration, Portsmouth
Britain does these things so very well!
Lump in throat, tear in eye – and that from someone who wasn’t around on D-Day but is nevertheless eternally grateful for the sacrifice made by that generation. I hope it is never forgotten. Heartfelt thanks to them all.

I gave up on Ch4 news years ago, couldn't stand any of them; Frei, Newman 7 Snow, I didn't think it could get any worse, but here's the proof it has.
Sky's reporting of the Trump visit was as bad and I thought even the BBC was better than either, then I saw a picture of that dreadful Darbyshire woman with the balloon-blimp actually in the studio.
I don't know where to turn for honest news coverage, if someone could start up a commercial news channel that was 'fair' (and I don't mean just everything with which I agree) I think they would clean-up.

Thanks hereIam, he originally joined the paras (they had a scheme to allow "underprivileged" men to join). After he was accepted a reason was found not to progress him, he was transferred to the glider corps. He did lots of other stuff in the war, my mother and auntie were trying to get his war records released after his death, not sure if they did, though.
