The industry I and my husband work in is difficult to recruit into. When I was made redundant last year he said I should look on the website of where he works for jobs. I applied and got a job there. Now he has received a 1k bonus for referring a successful recruit! I maintain the money should be in part mine but have as yet failed to convince him to give me any of it. I did all the hard work interviewing (plus there were tests to go throufh)and all he said was why don't you look on the website for jobs!

Any decent man would share it, imo.
Technically no. Had it been me, I would have gone halves.

id like to think I would have done too, but it's more likely if it were the other way round I would have kept it :)
Throughout my marriage any windfall money was always shared equally by both of us.
Very odd, not a marriage I would like to be in.
I have to agree with some other posters, I would spend the money between you, but that's how we operate, it's a shared pot, and always has been.

I remember years ago before we were married, and we had very little money, the soon-to-be-present Mrs Hughes was struggling to raise two children and keep her house, while studying for a teaching degree.

I was at work, and my boss, a bit of a racing fan, asked me to pop down to the betting office and put £5 on a horse - he was advised it was a sure thing, because a lot of horses are trained to win a race at long odds which gives the owners the money to feed and train it for another year - and he had an 'inside' tip.

I was writing out the slip, and I heard the odds - 8-1. I realised that would bring him fifty poinds if the horse won, and this was in the early '80's, and to us, that was a fortune! I decided to back it as well, and we duly collected £50 each.

I have no idea what my boss did with his winnings, but I handed mine over to an amazed student (I have never bet on a horse except the National before or since)and told her to treat herself with it.

It actually paid the electric bill, but needs must, and all that.

O ! I am not married but I thought the rule was
the woman gets it all !
jesus that was pretty generous of you andie

oh oh and can I spoil my praise by adding a predictable one liner - oh pleeeeez
right - and she said I am still not going to bed with you .....
ter daaah !
My OH shared his windfalls with others & if he found my stash he would take that too. Methinks he wanted praise & adulation from others & we were taken for granted. He hated shopping & that was when I recuped any loss by doubling up price of purchases :D

As always, I have no idea what you are talking about, and remain mystified as you why you feel the need to incorrectly spell my name.

Nothing in your OP suggests it should be yours, he earned it fair and square.
Whatever you sort out between you is just that, a personal arrangement.
bednobs, is it likely your husband expected you would have kept the money to yourself had you received the bonus? It's a two way street, sharing both ways.

it was generous of you Andie to give it to the student - the money - calm down everyone
£50 went a long way in the 80s

unless you didnt give the money to the student which would account for your total confusion

a one liner is a joke of one sentence - like - 'I went to Philadelphia once but it was closed' (WCFields)

can I help with anything else ?
You should share it 50/50
