it's s flipping good question, one to which i have no answer
Super holds it’s value - I’ve sold over £3000 worth of my kids’ Lego and I’ve still got boxes of the stuff.
Yes, I was looking at some technical sets the other day and they were over £100.

My answer would be 1. a buoyant economy (generally) and 2. popularity (or kids pester power).
Because people buy it at that price.

Like other stuff, one can ignore doing the right thing, and overcharge for a product or service, and get rich, if one is lucky enough to find something folk either need or desire.
It's called Capitalism, OG.
Brands are expensive

Capitalism should be providing goods and services at a fair price. When one demands more it's, at best, the dark side of capitalism since morality has been dispensed with.
The manufacturers nearly went bust at one point, when they were only selling the bricks for kids to make their own models. Then they hit upon the idea of having tie-ins to Disney, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Spiderman, et al. It costs them mega-bucks to use those brand names, with those costs being passed on to customers.
Lego are a Commercial Company, and their aim is to make as much money as possible from their products, not charge a fair price.
The market dictates the price, and that is high because lego is a Premium product, and people will pay more for it because it is superior to other toys. (And I would suspect the parents love it as much as their children, so will pay the price).
It is the worlds biggest toy company with turnover of US$2.1 billion.
If you just buy the mixed bricks sets, they are a reasonable price. It is only when you buy the specialist sets like Harry Potter, Star Wars etc that it starts to get very expensive and that is a lot to do with the merchandising of the movies.. everything with that movie on it costs more. My nephew is in to Lego and I just buy him the mixed sets which he will play with longer than the specialized sets anyway
"Capitalism should be providing goods and services at a fair price"

Staggering that capitalists have never realised that.
