it was a big birthday for my dad today. We had a really cracking family time. Sadly my mum's dad has dementia and Mr Bm lost his dad last year so there were missing people.
Its nice to make a big fuss of someone you adore once a year and perhaps take a moment to think about those we've lost.
Don't get me wrong- as a family we meet regularly for a meal/drink/knees up. But we always do something special for mum and dad on nothers/fathers day. Commercial it may be but I know dad went home feeling spoilt. Given what he has been thru over the last 2 years with fighting cancer I'm so pleased he had such a nice day.
Any occasion that brings family together , exchange a gift and express our love is a day well spent. Many of us have long lived without our fathers, but, if we have been lucky we thank them for the memories .
I had a lovely day and I’m sorry you feel that way, whilst dad slept we tidied up his gardens then we cooked a bbq and he got to sit outside for a while before going back in for another sleep.
The look on his face of pure as he open a package of sweets or a walnut whip was heartbreaking.
Don’t begrudge others joys just because you don’t participate
I hated it yesterday, but that was because my wonderful Dad has been dead for nearly four years now, plus it would have been his birthday also. We always celebrated it with gifts, cards and a cake, as we did with Mother's Day, sometimes going out for a meal. I miss it and am sad I will never do it again, but am grateful for all the happy memories of past Mother's and Father's Days. We don't all share yor views nailit.
I've started buying charity cards, so at least a tiny % of my consumerism can help somebody.
I think, regardless if you buy a card or just spend some time with ur pops, father day like mothers day is a nice concept. Quite often we can take the things they do for us for granted. Maybe even just take them for granted as people, forgetting not everyone has a mum or dad. I think it's nice people dedicate a day to appreciate those who bought us into the world (or who stood in place for those people).
