13 Answers
This started about 2 weeks ago, it has got really painful only standing up and lying down relieves the pain, difficult sitting down, thought it was sciatica but doctor seems to think i have pulled a muscle, prescribed Naproxen 250 twice a day and also can take paracetamol.
The pain is excrutiating, dont know what to do for the best, any advice please.

When I pulled a muscle in my thigh, lying down helped, but sitting down was painful. I was told to rest it for 2 weeks, then I was given exercises, but the pain lasted about 5 months. With Sciatica I had to exercise as much as possible, but that lasted 8 months. Painkillers were more effective with pulled thigh muscle than with Sciatica. My advice is prepare for the long haul- but it may be neither complaint and you may recover quickly.
Thanks catswhisks, you still didn't answer if the pain went down the back of the thigh or the outside, but never mind.
It doesn't sound like sciatica and I agree with your doctor in that it sound more like a muscular problem.
2 weeks is rather a long time for a muscular problem, so I feel that it is a matter of monitoring the situation for a further week and continuing the medication prescribed by your GP.If there is no improvement after that, then see you GP again.
