Listener No.4559 G By Xanthippe

A fantastic puzzle celebrating a memorable moment.
I solved the clues quite quickly but found the long endgame quite fiddly. My only snag is that I have an "I" left over to fit in the bottom row and can't make any further words (Latin, yes. English, no). If only the "I" was an "A" !!!
Thanks, Xanthippe, I enjoyed it.

I'm sure the setter would have loved to have been able to provide an even more logical and thematic final row but that would have been a superhuman achievement. At the end of the day that's what the Listener is all about - a real challenge, a series of pdms and you stumble over the line panting and releived. Many thanks, Xanthippe - I dread to think how long it must have taken to come up with that.
A remarkable construction, with some good clues. But....
Not a piece of popular culture I have ever enjoyed, so it did not spring to mind for a considerable time, and even then I had to use Google for a long time to find the particulars. The clashes did not help and the second set added nothing. The bottom row, I suppose, was just about defensible, but the new words had no relevance to anything. I suspect the trickiest bit will be transferring the fair copy to the entry grid. Put me down for the Z-Cup on this one

Attempting this after an early morning flight back from holiday probably wasn't a good idea, but I've struggled to the end (I think) of this well-constructed and tricky puzzle. I wasn't familiar with this aspect of the general theme, but it wasn't too hard to find after a few wrong guesses. I did think the bottom row was rather messy, but perhaps I've missed something. A good workout from a reliable setter.
So "rappers" are now legit fodder for Listener clues, are they? Hmmm...
