I see the Pope has reaffirmed the secrecy of the Confessional for paedophiles. You can just imagine how it goes :--

Confessor: Oh Father I have sinned, I am a kiddy fiddler

Priest: You're safe with us. Next time ring this number, we have the largest and most secret paedophile ring in the world. Absolute secrecy is guaranteed by the Pontiff himself.

It's not a law thwarting club. The law needs proof anyway not priest hearsay.

My editors are more interested in my opinions, and the opinions of those I talk to, than giving their readers lessons in the dry and dusty pedantry of correct syntax.

I understand that the premise of Confession is to unburden sins to God via an intermediary who can then forgive them on God's behalf.

It doesn't work for me, but for billions of people, it's a comfort in life, and who would deny them that?

The misuse of something by the few is rarely an adequate reason to deny it to the many.

Now, it seems that the best response is wriggling.

“lessons in the dry and dusty pedantry of correct syntax” is one thing. Misusing one of a pair of often-confused words (lend vs borrow, infer vs imply) is another. Oh, and it ain’t syntax either, however dry or dusty you describe it.

It’s just the wrong word!
