A firm called (Help your claim) asked to check if I was owed any PPI
they came back to me and told me I wasn't owed anything
Since then Barclays Bank have told me I was owed £5000.61 pounds
due them giving me false information
Now the Help company have contacted me saying they want £1800.00 pounds for solving my claim
Am I obliged to pay them doing nothing?

State that you will not enter into any further dialogue and that any further attempts may lead to legal action on your behalf.
They will try to dig their heels in by saying their intervention led to the Bank coughing up.
Hope you can shake them off, here are their terms.

//On success of your claim, HYC will charge a 20% fee + VAT (24% in Total) on all amounts received. //
If they contacted Barclays , then they can argue that it was because of that contact that Barclays are making a refund to you .
It doesn't state that there must have been a particuliar amount of work on their part , for their fee to be charged

Bazile, I probably jumped the gun a bit but it is a sore point with me. These firms will do the investigation for you and of course charge for what they do. It just makes me seeth as when all this started a few years ago, it was on the news that no-one need go to get help, that all they had to do was to go to their bank and get it all sorted without having to pay a penny to anyone. Good luck with it Dee
