I'm interested in other cases of contempt where the breaching of enreporting restrictions has prejudiced a defendant's right to a fair trial.
Here's one case I found which led to the dismissal of jury:
https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/uploads/JCO/Documents/Judgments/hm-attorney-general-associated-newspapers-mgn-limited.pdf
Under the heading "Overall conclusion" at the end of the document the judge comments:
"39. I am sure that each publication did create such a substantial risk of serious prejudice....
I have little doubt that if the jury had not been discharged, there
would have been a seriously arguable point that the conviction was unsafe.
40. We shall invite submissions from the Attorney General and counsel for the two newspapers on penalty."
Can someone help me out here, because I can't find out wht the eventual penalty was? How many people were jailed for this serious offence, and how long did they serve?
