Just when you thought it was all over it isn't as cut and dried as it appears.

I don't think anything can be done about now. They can't replay the match.
Have to stage a replay.

Unfortunately none of the major cricket grounds are available until the end of the season so it will be held at Chester-le-Street on 4th November.
In any case there are numerous cases where matches have been won or lost due to an umpiring error.
Don't suppose you have Gina Miller's 'phone number do you?
it seems it's an error. No mechanism for correcting it, sadly.
Taufel was one of the best umpires, so I've no reason to doubt his analysis. It mightn't have changed the outcome - for a start, a different batsman would have been facing the bowling, who might have scored more, or less.

All the same, it's really irritating to find that when it came to the crunch, the climax of a closely fought world cup final, the umpires screwed up.

I just hope we don't have to endure another 'hand of God' controversy in the next umpteen years to come.
Kiwis still snigger about underarm bowling decades ago; they may well remember, but I doubt they'll hold it against anyone.
Likely minor errors occur multiple times in any sports game. One plays to the ref's/umpire's decision at the time, and wail about being robbed afterwards, if not totally unjustified in doing so. It's a pity to have controversy but c'est la vie.
I think they should have shared the cup between the two teams, I felt desperately sorry for the New Zealand team. You can take this competitive thing too far IMHO.
Sorry, but what are you people talking about?

Asked whether it mattered to him, [England's director of cricket Ashley] Giles said: "Not really."

He added: "You could argue the last ball that [Trent] Boult bowled was a full toss on leg stump and if Stokes' hadn't just been looking for two he probably would've banged it out of the ground anyway.

"We are world champions; we have got the trophy and we intend to keep it."

New Zealand batsman Henry Nicholls brushed off the decision as part of the sport.

"It doesn't mean anything to us now. It's the game; things happen," he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"Sometimes you get the rub of the green. England had a great tournament, they have been the dominant team for the last four years so they deserve to win it."
