I see a lot of spam adverts appearing as first questions by new users.

At times there seems to be a flood of them, as if they are being sent by a machine.

Would it stop this if all newbies first questions had to be reviewed by a mod before being allowed into the site?

It might stop it if the first questions had to be reviewed by a moderator hopkirk but that would be given more power to the moderators, not a good idea in my opinion,
Power corrupts.
I don't think there's always a mod about 24/7 which wouldn't be fair on genuine new users.
The one that gets me is the keto - it's daily and constant and never gives up despite always being zapped. I assume they are from a computer generated email and username each time???
That would necessitate a nominated Moderator on a shift pattern and as they are unpaid volunteers - difficult to work.

Jordy likes the Keto diet and is a big fan of the Testosterone boosters.;-)

So a new user's first question might be delayed a little. A small price to pay.
I find it quite distasteful all this reference to "newbies"

LOL you sound like a newbie.
I've never seen so much spam in one day as today.
It's been full on hasn't it?
Hopkirk - and then what could be a valuable member of AB goes elsewhere for an answer and never return.
I gave up reporting them earlier. Seems a moderator was here long enough to zap them when opining on the Trump thread but didn’t.
It is not easy joining this site. I'm not sure how a machine would manage to fill in the form choose a user name not in use (it took me three goes) then go find the email, reply, then send a question. More likely these adverts are from home workers in foreign countries that get paid per click.
This is my application for a moderators hat.

Qualities:

-Top banter
-Presence
-Sticking up for the 'lil' man
-I have my own hat
Oh! one more quality - I'm not a far right batty
