Overhanging Branches

I live in a flat which is leasehold and have a garage which is about 10 metres from the block of 9 flats in which I live. At present the roof of the garage is almost covered by the branches and foliage of a tree which belongs to a neighbour next door. The result of this is that the garage roof is now in a state of disrepair because any rainfall which lands on the roof just lies there and deteriorates the felt on the roof ( which is flat).
Can I get my neighbour, whom I have never met and don't know if his/her place is leasehold or freehold, do something about the tree ? Thank you.

doubt it, but you can cut off any bits that overhang. I am confused though about the rain.....surely that would happen tree or not, and the tree may even be sheltering to roof and therefore there is less water lying on it?

you can cut the bits that overhang your garden. You may have to offer the bits to him, although I'm not sure if that is law or an urban ( suburban) myth

You can definitely cut any branches that overhang onto any of your property, and then throw them back over to the neighbour for them to dispose of, but best to let them know first to save any aggravation. I have had this problem with overhanging branches with a neighbour, but it was resolved amicably as I have told you above.
