Really don’t quite know what’s happened but I went into a local corner shop two days ago - it literally is the corner shop- and I paid £18.99 by contactless card. Didn’t get a receipt - I was in a hurry and I’ve been going in there for at least 10 years with never an issue.
I’ve checked my online banking yesterday and the exact amount has come out twice, within seconds. I’ve rang the shop and he says I must have popped back and bought again!! Of course I didn’t. But he isn’t budging. Any bright ideas or shall I just accept its lost and never use them again?

Contact your bank
If he's right there will be two transactions on his till record, maybe suggest somebody in authority looks at his records for you.
It may be that he CAN help after all, just to avoid all the 'inconvenience'.
Contact your bank ASAP Smow, they should be able to confirm there been a double payment for one transaction, that should show the shop keeper any proof he needs
Could it be a banking error.
Let your bank know?
apopogies that’s a link to a us site. But the principle is the same. There should be a number to call on the back of your card.

I’m not sure if who I spoke to was the same guy - they have at least 3 guys who rotate shifts.

When I check transactions on line my bank has a notice that some payments may show up twice until transaction is processed by the bank next day - I wouldn't panic
There shouldn't be a problem with your not having a receipt. On the UK Cards Association website it says,

"For contactless payments for £30 and under, a receipt will not automatically be printed for you. However, you can always ask for a receipt, and the retailer must give you one if you ask. For contactless payments over £30, the retailer must always print a receipt for you."

Ahhhh thanks for that x
The lack of receipt should not be a problem because there is no way you could have a receipt for a transaction you didn't make.
