When getting a mortgage to buy a property abroad what do the lenders do about getting a survey. I presume they will not lend without one.

A survey is necessary and there are usually a lot more hoops to jump through than a UK purchase. You will need a solicitor in the counrty of purchase. Only real exception is in Spain and you can do this through most high st lenders. Alternative is to raise mortgage on your UK property and buy abroad outright.
