What does DFS (furniture retailer) Stand for?

TSB

WH Smith

MFI

Can't remember DFS, but I'll give you three of them: His Master's Voice, Trustees Savings Bank, Manufacturing Furniture Industries (though "Made For Idiots" is a popular version!). Don't know what Mr Smith's forenames were but I expect it can be found it quite easily (tried Wikipedia?)

I work for WH Smith, and in training we have to know what the WH stands for! It is William Henry

DFS - is Discount Furntiure Store.  It was abbreviated to make it sound more up market.  Along the same logic as changing the name of Quality Seconds to QS - although they are both cr*p

DFS=Doncaster Furniture Stores, renamed so they could expand down South and not be automatically judged on the "Northern Upholstery" name.
