"flipping" A Selfie Image

If my wife stands on my left hand side and we take a selfie photo of ourselves, the resulting image will show her apparently standing on my right. In other words it is a mirror image of the reality. Another example would be if I was standing in front of, say, an advertising hoarding - the writing on the hoading would be mirrored.

In settings (Huawei Mate 10, Android 8.0.0), is there a way to fip the image back to "normal" or can it only be done by saving the image and using a photo editing program?

No it won't.
Why should a selfie be different to a photo taken by a third party?

Selfie pictures are set to mirror mode because that is psychologically pleasing to us - we normally only ever see ourselves in reflection.

There should be a setting to disable mirroring.

On reflection ;-) ... I should not have written 'only ever' - we are most used to seeing ourselves as a mirror image in everyday life.

Thanks, ABerrant. As so often seems to happen, Huawei's instructions in your link ("In the viewfinder, select the front camera and go to the camera settings. Enable or disable Mirror reflection as required") do not describe what I see on my phone. I don't know how to access "camera settings". Huawei's instructions regarding flipping an image from Gallery does work, however.

4candles, yes, it will (unless you have disabled mirroring - a function which I have been unable to find on my phone). Open the front camera on your phone and hold something with writing so that the camera can "see" it. Is the writing the right way round on your phone's screen?

I have found how to access the settings (by swiping the screen left) and there is the "Mirror reflection" toggle under "Capture Settings" (set to "on"). I slid it left to "off" but it makes no difference.

What you see on the 'phone as you take the selfie is a mirror image. The actual photo isn't.

Write something on a bit paper and hold the bit paper by your face as you take the photo. The writing will appear to be backwards on the 'phone but when you look at the photo, you can read it normally.

With the "Mirror reflection" toggle set to "on", this is not the case (on my phone at least) and the phone did not retain the "mirror reflection - off" toggle setting. However, it now seems to have done so. Hopefully, the problem is solved. Thanks to all.

Screen is mirrored, as I'd expect for composition, but actual photo is normal. No option on my phone to alter it.

4candles, that makes sense with your phone. I find it odd that my Huawei defaults to mirrored (although I seem to have fixed it now). I would not be best pleased if I went to Los Angeles and took a selfie of myself with the HOLLYWOOD sign in the background only to find when I got home that the resulting image was mirrored!
