Problem With "unplayable" Songs On Iphone 5/itunes

Hi All

I have all of my music on iTunes (on my laptop) and have set my iPhone 5 up to sync wirelessly with my laptop.

However, for some strange reason, when I'm out, whilst all of my songs show on my iPhone 5, a fair amount of them appear "greyed out" and have a red square within a red circle logo next to them.

When I try to play the songs that have that icon next to them on my iPhone, they get "skipped over" and the phone won't play a song until it "finds" one without that icon next to it.

I've tried syncing my phone with my laptop via a cable, too, and all the songs show on my phone and none of them have the aforementioned red square and circle icon next to them.

However, when I try to play them on my iPhone, low and behold, the red square and circle icon reappears and those songs get "skipped over".

Can anyone help me solve this, please?

Sound like you are sharing the library, so don't have them physically on your phone.

Thanks for those excellent answers guys.

rockyracoon's answer worked, so I didn't try Buenchico's solution. I'll keep both for future reference.

Some of the album artwork is missing from my iPhone5 (despite being visible in iTunes on my laptop), but I'll "live with that" for the time being.

Tuvok - I've no idea what had happened. If I was "sharing", I have no idea how that happened as I've not changed any settings in the 12 months since I've had my iPhone.
