A query regarding ipods.

Hi, first off, I don't have one and don't want one. I have a small MP3 player which does me, and most times I listen to my MP3's through the hi fi using Musicmatch.

However, I have a friend who doesn't have a computer but does have an ipod, and she has asked me if she can use my PC to put tracks on. On the face of it, I have no objections, but this will involve putting Ipod software on my PC. My question is does doing this "hijack" or change the MP3's on my system (I have 25,000) and I don't want to risk losing them or have them made unplayable as a result of doing her a favour. Can anyone advise.

this should be fine. as long as you go into the settings and make sure the encoder is mp3

With that many mp3's wouldn't it be wise to have them backed up incase anything did happen?

Thanks for the answers. I have them backed up (do it every month on 2 separate external drives) anyway as a matter of course , but if there was any hassle involved, I didn't want to have to go through extra work getting things right.

Unfortunately, I wrote the question wrong - I don't think it will do anything to the MP3's, but I am wondering if it is going to oust Musicmatch as my default player. There is a facility in Musicmatch to reclaim files assigned to other programmes, and to be honest I don't think I'll have problems, but there have been times when I have installed something that has totally changed other stuff, and as (ironically as a result of updating BTYahoo software) I seem to have lost the ability to do restores, I'm a bit wary.

you can change the default player by changing the default program for the mp3 extension. its in either the folder options or one of the utilities in the control pannel

Good call, never wanting an iPod ... As long as she doesn't want to install iTunes, which is rubbish, then you should be ok ...
