There is a bus which will drop you off in the town, or alternatively you can walk, which takes about 20 mins.
There is the Carrefour hypermarket around 4km/50 minutes on foot away (Carrefour, Avenue Georges Guynemer, 62100 Calais). There are several supermarkets closer than that. Carrefour City Calais Clemenceau, 2-4 Boulevard Georges Clemenceau, 62100 Calais is half the distance and probably the closest of any size.
There's not one within walking distance of the ferry terminal.

It's roughly a 15 minute walk into the town centre or you can take the bus that meets the ferries. (I can't remember the exact fare but it's not expensive at only a euro or two).

I usually walk into town (when I'm not carrying very much) but take the bus back (when I'm laden down with bottles of plonk).

In the town centre you'll find a large Carrefour, which probably stocks everything you might want anyway. (There's also a much smaller 'Express' branch of Carrefour close to Calais Ville rail station. That's where I usually buy my wine because it's very close to where the bus back to the ferry terminal departs from, making it easier to carry everything).

There's a handy free bus service ("Balad’in") which runs across the town centre every 10 minutes.

Most of the hypermarkets aren't easily accessible by public transport but, once you're in the town centre, you can take a Line 1 bus to Cité Europe, which is a major shopping mall (somewhat similar to Lakeside or Bluewater in the UK), where you'll find a very large Carrefour.

I'm wondering why you want to go to a hypermarket. Many cruise ships check your shopping for alcohol as they forbid passengers from taking their own aboard
We went on an Alaskan cruise a few years ago they took my 2 bottles of whisky and gave me them back at the end of the cruise, I would never recommend this cruise,
People were filling their plates with food then leaving half of it,the price of drinks was a disgrace, recommended trips ashore were overpriced by the cruise line, better idea was to book ashore,no definitely would not recommend Alaskan cruise.

Well I want to buy tobacco duty free to take home. Yes I’m aware you hand it all in and get it back at Southampton.
I’ve not cruise before can you buy cheaper cigarettes on the liner?
Are you going on a cruise or a cross channel ferry?

There is no duty free in France or any other EU country (at the moment!) and France has put the price of all tobacco products up - still cheaper than the UK but I would not have thought it cheap enough to take up time during my cruise.
It certainly will not be cheaper on board.
Hannah - you can't buy cigarettes in French supermarkets. You have to go to a tabac.
^^^ Yes, as Diddlydo states, the French authorities only issue tobacco licences to tabacs. They have a policy of not issuing them to supermarkets.

If you want to buy ciggies in France, you MUST go to a tabac, like this one in Calais

(Look for the lozenge-shaped 'Tabac' sign: https://tinyurl.com/y4zgeemy ).
You CAN'T buy them in supermarkets (or anywhere else).
