tambo, if you had a gas leak, you would smell the stenching agent in the gas.....
If they were concerned they would have turned you off, the company responsible Wales & West and their liability to the marketer and you stops at the meter. Ensuring that customers gas is coming through safely and without oxygen in the line after a disruption though is an obligation......
If the boiler is difficult to light, you may wish to get them back in - or get a registered fitter in - plenty on-line.....or call your gas marketer.
you may not even need them replacing - the stench agent, Mercaptan, you would smell immediately, even with the tiniest of exudations.....by the way, if you ever smell gas, do not turn on or OFF your electricity - it's the spark inside the switch that provides the ignition to the gas/oxygen mix.....so leave all lights and the rest on.....
and call the emergency services/Gas co from outside the house, even the mobile can spark as it's turned on - I never use mine in a filling station, for example...Shell does 'advertise' on its pumps not to do so....
