Critical Illness Mis Sold Advice??
Just realised the ppi deadline is close. I was sold Critical illness with life cover to Skandia (now old mutual wealth) by a Financial advisor 10yrs ago. I didn’t even have a mortgage or needed it. Was this mis sold? Am I too late as the company has rebranded from skandia and the claim is relating to 10yrs ago?

I received a letter from a firm I'd never heard of relating to missold PPI. I assumed it was just another company that wanted to try to claim back PPI (for a big share of the money) on my behalf and ignored it for several months. When I found it again (under a pile of papers, during a rare tidy-up of my living room) I saw that it was from the an American firm which had taken over the company with whom I'd had a credit card many years before. The letter invited me to make a claim for any PPI that I thought might have been mis-sold to me and to enter a security number online if I wanted to do so.
I never intended to make a claim (as I didn't think that the PPI I'd had had actually been 'mis-sold') but, just out of curiosity, I went online and entered the security code. I was expecting to be asked loads of questions about why I thought that the PPI had been mis-sold but, instead, I just saw a message saying "Thank you for submitting your claim. We'll be in touch with you shortly". A few weeks later I received a cheque for £3k ;-)

Critical illness can be sold with a Mortgage but the two do not necessarily go hand in hand. It is usually sold as a stand alone insurance to people who want to know their future would be more secure should they suffer one of the major illnesses, such as a stroke, and not be able to work again or for a long time.
It allows them to still be in a position to cover all their outgoings and maintain a standard of living.
There does not seem to be any publicity about mis sold policies, but that does not mean it hasn't happened. You would need to contact the insurance Company and talk to them, their records should show what discussions took place and whether it was fully explained to you.

The deadline for msking a claim is the 29th of THIS MONTH so you'll need to get a wriggle on!
