Would anyone know why my oil boiler has started switching itself on for around 50secs several times an hour when timer control is off. Only just started using heating again after summer. (It's a Grant condensing boiler). I've switched the actual boiler off now.

Boilers being switched back on after a long layoff often start sprouting all kinds of problems.

It may settle down, or, something has stuck and refused to operate properly.

"Boiler short cycling"

There are so many possibilities. In the meantime, I would suggest you contact Grant. They are one of the better brands, and have a good technical dept.

you're using the heating? In August? heatwave next week!
I think many of us have a troublesome old boiler.
But I'm in hot water now.

Something sticking or out of spec. Worth getting someone to give it its annual service and a check over.
If the timer is off for hot water and heating and is cycling,it will be the timer at fault. If its set to domestic hot water only and its cycling it could be the photocell.
