Hello. I'm back. Well, actually I was back last week but I simply couldn't get into the way of thinking of the setter of last week's crossword. I had so many white spaces I was too embarrassed to seek help. I wondered if I had lost the knack while we were in Connemara. SWMBO took His Nibs and me . I've been lots of times before but it was a first for His Nibs. As expected, he was bowled over by the stark beauty of the place. I am every time we go. AND we had good weather.
One more bit of good news. His Nibs passed his A levels and is off to uni in September. I'll miss him, of course but it's great really.
To the crossie. I actually have the answers but I'm not sure of the reasoning.
4 ac Spurious damage , first to last, will have you embarrassed. The answer is, I think, "shamefaced" but I don't understand the reasoning (not the embarrassed bit of course)
54 ac Protection for locks? Cheated about last of these four, perhaps.
The only thing I can make fit is "headsquare" which I know some women wear to protect their hair so the meaning is OK. But the rest?
As always, I'll be grateful for guidance
