I don't watch the programme but I'm curious as to what the USP of the chilli paste featured is meant to be.

A quick look at the main supermarket websites show that they all seem to sell their own-brand products. e.g.

Well we don't know if it's 'special ' or not
We don't know what it tastes like

The dragons tasted it and one decided to back the venture , not just on taste but based on the business and the person asking for funding .

As you say the supermarket shelves are full of different brands of the product .

Whether a product 'taste good' is if course subjective

RRS is liked by enough people to have made the entrepreneur a multi millionaire .
There were other sauces available

Will enough people like the paste for the business to be successful ?

In the end that's what it boils down to - the choice shoppers make helped by good marketing
