Does anyone else hold the same cynical view as me that this whole scenario, since 9/11, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, the Middle East, even the Falklands......the list is endless......is being stage-managed by our own leaders just to suit their own political prejudices?
Why on earth do we need to be manufacturing warplanes and aircraft carriers with all their armament and support facilities when ideally peace is in imminent danger of breaking out?
Just exactly whose version of the truth are we supposed to believe?

Tony blair must have known

When we sending all the muslims home then?- all they want to do is hurt us.
dont worry touareg, its only a very small minority that want to hurt us.
So 20 people arrested.....attacks foiled...why then make it difficult for passengers who are travelling...why all the hullaballoo. Now when the story comes out and we find that all they had was telephone conversations and no bombs (if that is the case) then wont people have a right to eb aggrieved that they had to cancel flights for nothing. remember they took apart that house recently and found nothing.

It could be all a smokescreen...make the people frightened and prepare the groundwork for an attack on Iran......the US is up to its mischief again
Yeah and doesnt it seem funny that a woman from ireland wins that 70 million or whatever a while ago it was then a week later the ira disarm? sounds like a pay off to me.
Booldawg, when I'm going down from 33000 feet it will be comforting to know that only 25% of muslims want me and the other passengers dead.
".....25% of muslims want me and the other passengers dead. " - ah another Daily Mail reader
So tourag Irish people aren't allowed to win the lottery in case it might be an IRA payoff? You could say the same about all the Welsh winners couldn't you, as I've not noticed them barbequing any holiday maker's cottages lately. I'm all for a GOOD CONSPIRACY THEORY but the fact is that the lady in question who won that money is in hiding as she had a lot of unwanted attention from lots of people in Ireland and threats of all sorts from all groups in attempts to extort money from her.
As for this latest War on Terror, I hope that this is not merely to terrify people into submission and that they have actually managed to catch some extremist wrong doers as the idea that it's a huge PR stunt for the failing Tony Blair to come swinging in like superman and save the day did occur to me. I wrote that off as being too far a conspiracy theory and I hope I'm right as if this is a Govt set up to be used to aid the US in yet another of it's disgusting excursions then where is the hope for any of us?

i think its just lazy politics. 9/11 changed political discourse and now any politician who seeks legitimacy for his "defense" agenda can borrow vocabulary ("terrorist threat", "vigilant", "right to exist"...) and excuses first made popular by Pres Bush.

so its not a complete lie, they just remove any distinction between the individual conflicts and repackage it in these general terms. so for example, Israel can say they are doing just what America did and America can say we are just doing what the Allies did during WW2. (Actually, I heard an Israeli govt. official on Radio 4 a couple days ago comparing the Israeli conflict with London during the Blitz!)

It passes in general, but of course if you analyse the particular situations the arguments do not stand up.
The fact is that US did not and still does not even recognise the governments of many of the countries you mentioned in your post as they are not puppet friendly enough. I seem to remember that it was US, who supported and financed Taliban militarily in Afghanistan before 9/11 when that country was being repressed by this brutal regime. But that suited the americans at the time and the repression and human rights abuses in was not important enough to make an issue. Post 9/11 has changed everything. Look at the government structure in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia! Both truely exemplify puppet governments to serve the interests of the West in that region.
