I don't know if anyone watched this episode, which showed items and stories related to the early days of WW2. One of the items shown was a tankard that had been found in the wreckage of HMS Hardy, when it was salvaged from a Norwegian fjord in 1973. The tankard belonged to the captain, who died in the action. A friend of mine, Rolf Monteith, served on HMS Hardy. Some may remember that I posted a video of him on here some time ago, this one;
At the age of 95,Rolf is still actively remembering his fallen colleagues. He met Princess Anne last week in Plymouth on Merchant Navy Day, when she unveiled a memorial on Plymouth Hoe, to all those lost in the Merchant Navy. Rolf is a very engaging person. Please watch his video if you have the time. TIA.
The merchant seamen didht have a very good war
When the ship was captured, those that survived were interned in camps but not POW camps and werent protected by the geneva convention.
