Music on Shipping forecast?

can anyone tell me what is the music which precedes the shipping forecast on radio 4

It's called Sailing By and was composed by one Ronald Binge.


And no, the version played on R4 is not available commercially.

Easy enough to get though, if you want it. Just connect a radio to your computer (3.5mm jack plug at either end) and play it through your system. Have an audio recorder running and you'll have it 'on tape', so to speak. You can then trim what's either side of Sailing By and just keep the music.


The software I use is Audacity, a free program (and it's brilliant too!), downloadable from here

I found a CD on Amazon called 'Sailing By - The Music Of Ronald Binge' featuring a nice version. It's for my Mother-in-law so good brownie points there!! - Thanks Again


This music for the Radio four shipping forecast every morning at 0045 is called Sailing by. But I think it also has a connection with a BBC newsreader who used to be a mariner some years previously, Any body know anything about this?
